How my online shopping fail turned into an on air win

What started with finding a cheaper way to fuel my new shoe addiction ended up becoming a content goldmine.

This week on the show was a reminder of something I deeply believe in: the power of personal storytelling is what keeps local radio alive.
For the past two weeks, I’ve been sharing a very real (and very specific) part of my life: my new love for Crocs… specifically the Siren heel. They’re cute. They’re controversial. And they’re expensive.
So naturally, I did what many people do: I searched Amazon and found a $25 knockoff pair. I ordered them in early October 2025. And I waited... and I waited... and I waited some more, until it was clear I was ripped off. Or so I thought because midway through my first week at 106.1 WNGC Your Georgia Country I received this mysterious note from the post office in my mailbox. It was both exhilarating, and stressful to know that somewhere out there was a pair of shoes with my name on them... literally.
I arranged to pick the shoes up from my local post office, but the day I was suppose to pick them up, I fell victim to the great Verizon Outage of 2026, and like any decent millennial, I actually have not stepped foot in a post office for at least a decade. So I actually did not know where my local post office was. However through a stroke of luck and three months delayed the shoes were delivered to my door!
What started as a silly fashion confession turned into an ongoing storyline that listeners followed daily from debating if the knockoffs were worth it, to wondering if the shoes would ever show up, to finally revealing how they looked and felt once they arrived. And that’s the magic of local radio.
It’s not just about music or headlines. It’s about letting people into your life in small, honest, human ways. Those moments create familiarity. Trust. Community. And connection. Listeners didn’t just hear about shoes. They heard patience. Expectations. Budget decisions. Disappointment. Humor. And finally, payoff. That’s what builds loyalty.
Grateful to work in a medium where something as simple as a pair of $25 knockoff Crocs can turn into a shared experience with an entire community. Listen every morning from 5 a.m. - 9 a.m. or download the free Your Georgia Country App today!
