Don't let the ick from winter stay in your home all spring, we found a few quick tips to get your home ready for spring

It can be overwhelming thinking about that big clean from winter to spring, letting fresh air into your home and getting rid of those icky winter germs and bacteria. As overwhelming as it is, the task is not always as daunting as it seems once you are doing it and when it's finally done; HOWEVER if you are sitting on the sidelines scared or feeling overwhelmed about where to begin I picked out a few of my favorite tips on getting your house ready for spring.

1. Come up with a game plan

While some people can knock out cleaning their home in one day, I surely am not that person. One of the best ways to knock out a big cleaning like spring cleaning is go room by room. I personally like to knock out one room at a time and enjoy the process even if it takes me a few days or a week.

2. Try new cleaning habits

It's always nice to start a new routine or habit because you want to do a good job at something new, subsequently your eyes will be open to inspecting a dirty room more thoroughly.

3. Declutter

Trust me that collection of random baggies you've collected from over the years is not going to get used... that use to be me. Decluttering is good for the soul and you can't convince me otherwise. I like to use the rule of thumb if I don't use it in a season (3 months-ish) then I need to donate it. I use this rule for clothes, accessories, furniture, new hobbies, craft supplies, pretty much anything that does not serve an immediate need i.e. light bulbs are kind of essential so don't toss those, but that ugly winter sweater you've been holding on to since 2013 can get tossed or donated.

4. Know what your seasonal chores are

It always feels like "spring cleaning" is the biggest clean we do all year, so make a list and know what are your spring season chores, is it cleaning off the grill, clearing out the basement, throwing away that box of decorations that you haven't used in 15 years? I personally like to knock out cleaning all my airducts and vents, pressure washing my patio and donating any clothes and gifts I haven't used based off my decluttering rule.

5. Get everyone in the house involved

If you live alone this one may not apply to you, unless if your house is haunted. If that's the case, find the nearest ghost hunters and tell them to tell the ghosts to clean up, because they are literally living for free to scare you, the least they can do is clean up after themselves...

Anyways now onto the actual tip here, get your kids, your spouse, your roommates, and the mice living under the house to pitch in. This will make Spring Cleaning go by a lot faster and feel more fun. Everyone can knock out their own personal living spaces, then in the shared spaces split up the chores as evenly as possible and before you know it the cleaning is all done. Make a game out of it, my husband will set a 15 minute timer and challenge me to finish my portion of the chores within 15 minutes because otherwise it's not getting done.
